A women's retreat in San Miguel de Allende, guided by horses

Rancho Baile de la Luna holds women-only equine-wisdom retreats near San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Fire Horse day retreats run about five times a year ($3,000 to $4,000 MXN, eight women), and a six-day retreat built on the Four Agreements runs in September 2026 ($2,750 to $3,550 USD including lodging, meals, and transport).

Not a resort. A ranch.

Plenty of retreats in San Miguel de Allende happen in beautiful venues. This one happens on a real working ranch, with dust, golden light, and a herd of eleven horses who are loved by name. That authenticity is not a compromise, it is the method: horses respond to who you actually are, moment to moment, and they are incapable of flattery. The work is on the ground. No riding or horse experience is needed.

The facilitator bench

The circles are held by a credentialed team: Chris Rausten, founder, with more than 50 years with horses; Amy Spencer, a bilingual Certified Horsemanship Association instructor; Marti McGinnis, an EAGALA Level 2 Certified Equine Specialist with 40 years in experiential facilitation; and Jocelyn Rausten, a Mindvalley certified life coach.

Two ways in

The Fire Horse series is a single day: ceremony, groundwork with the herd, a long ranch lunch, and a closing ceremony, capped at eight women. Upcoming dates are September 26 and November 14, 2026.

The six-day Four Agreements retreat in September 2026 takes one agreement per day with the herd as teachers, and includes five nights of lodging, all meals, hot springs, and transport. Eight women, no more.

For burnout, midlife, and starting over

A good number of the women who come here are in their forties, fifties, and beyond, in the middle of burnout, an empty nest, a divorce, or simply a season of asking what comes next. There is no age ceiling and no fitness test. The work is a nervous-system reset more than a physical one: slower breathing, a quieter mind, a horse standing next to you who does not need you to perform. Solo travelers are genuinely welcome, many women come alone and leave with friends they keep.

Quick questions
Are the retreats women-only?

The Fire Horse day series and the six-day Four Agreements retreat are women-only. The one-day Spirit Horse Journey, the two-day immersive, private sessions, Reiki, and constellations are open to everyone, and men are genuinely welcome there. Trail rides, lessons, and leasing are open to all.

What is included in the six-day retreat?

The September Four Agreements retreat includes four full days of guided horse experiences, five nights of lodging, all meals (five breakfasts, four lunches, five dinners), daily transport between hotel and ranch, airport transfers, an afternoon at the hot springs, dinner in San Miguel de Allende, and your choice of a horseback ride, Reiki, or massage. Price is $2,750 to $3,550 USD depending on room and timing, capped at eight women.

Can I book a retreat or journey on any day?

No, and this trips people up, so here it is plainly: retreats and Spirit Horse Journeys run only on set dates, announced in advance. Trail rides, lessons, and private sessions can be scheduled around you. If no date is posted for the journey you want, join the waitlist and you will hear first.

Do I have to ride a horse at the retreats?

No. The retreats and Spirit Horse Journeys are ground-based: you work beside the horses on foot, not from the saddle. No riding and no horse experience is needed, ever.
