Getting to San Miguel de Allende, and to the ranch
Most visitors from the US and Canada fly into León (BJX), about an hour and a half by road from San Miguel de Allende, or Querétaro (QRO), about an hour and a quarter. Mexico City is three and a half to four hours away. Rancho Baile de la Luna is 20 minutes outside San Miguel, near Atotonilco.
The three airports
| Airport | Code | Road time to San Miguel |
|---|---|---|
| León / Guanajuato (Bajío) | BJX | About 1.5 hours |
| Querétaro | QRO | About 1.25 hours |
| Mexico City | MEX | 3.5 to 4 hours |
Times are approximate and depend on traffic. Add about 20 minutes from San Miguel out to the ranch.
Flights from the US
León (BJX) is the main gateway. It has nonstop service from several US cities, including Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Atlanta, with more seasonal routes from California and Texas. Querétaro (QRO) adds connections through Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, and Detroit. Routes change by season, so check with the airlines for current schedules.
Flights from Canada
From October 2026, Flair Airlines flies a weekly nonstop between Vancouver and León (BJX), the first direct link between Canada and this region. From elsewhere in Canada, most travelers connect through Mexico City or a US hub.
Coming for the January retreat
If you are joining Six Days with the Herd, airport transportation is included on arrival and departure, from León (BJX) or Querétaro (QRO). You land, and you are taken care of.
Coming for a ride
The ranch is in San Miguelito, El Fresno, near Atotonilco, just outside San Miguel de Allende. The map pin and directions are on our contact page, and we answer questions on WhatsApp, usually the same day. Trail rides go out in the morning, apart from the sunset ride, so it is worth planning your first day around them.

About 20 minutes by car, in Atotonilco. Most guests come by taxi or Uber; tell us when you book and we will send you the exact pin so the driver goes straight there.
If you would rather not explain the way to anyone, we work with two trusted private drivers who know exactly how to find us. They charge 600 pesos round trip. Just ask and we will put you in touch.
When is the best time of year to ride?
Every season has its argument, but the rainy season, June through September, is spectacular: the high desert turns deep green, wild sunflowers grow taller than a rider, and the trails to the river and the Presa de los Torres are at their best. Winter brings crisp golden light and cool mornings. Rain usually falls as brief afternoon showers, so morning rides run year round.
