Our story

From Moon Dance to Mexico.

It all started with a little Shetland pony and a lifelong dream.

Chris has loved horses since before she could talk. Her family did not grow up on a ranch, and there was no money for horses, but when she was six or seven her mom scraped together $35 to buy her a pony. That was it. She has had horses ever since.

When she married Jeff over 30 years ago, he did not know it yet, but he was marrying into a life of hay, hooves, and horsehair. Together they built Moon Dance Ranch in Southern California, a six-acre boarding facility with up to 28 horses, poured their hearts into the land, and learned ranch life one fence post at a time.

After years of longing for something more peaceful and free, they searched everywhere. Costa Rica, beach towns, hidden pockets of paradise. Nothing felt right. Then they found San Miguel de Allende. The first time they rolled through the gates of this ranch just outside town, Chris knew. They brought three horses from the United States, expecting a quiet retirement. The ranch came with six more, and one more found its way to them, because of course it did.

The name honors their California roots. Moon Dance Ranch became Rancho Baile de la Luna, and here the moon truly dances, over sun-drenched cactus, golden grasslands, and the sound of hooves on dusty trails.

The ranch today

Rancho Baile de la Luna is a peaceful horse ranch tucked into the high desert outside San Miguel de Allende. What began as a small retirement dream has grown into a heartfelt place where people and horses come together for riding, learning, healing, and connection. We offer guided trail rides, riding lessons, equine wisdom journeys, retreats, and monthly horse leasing. Everything we do is centered on partnership, respect, and the quiet magic that happens when humans slow down and listen to the wisdom of the horse.

Chris and Jeff

Chris and Jeff have been together for over 30 years and married almost as long. Chris has loved horses since before she could talk, and Jeff fell in love with horses when he fell in love with her. They are involved in nearly every trail ride, deeply bonded with their horses, and known for making guests feel like family, because almost every single time, that is exactly what happens.
